The Manitoba IBD Risk Factor Study
In 2002 with funding from the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada we initiated our Manitoba IBD Risk Factor Study ($180,000). To conduct this study we recruited nearly 500 subjects with IBD and from the general Manitoba population nearly 500 healthy controls, all under age 50. All participants completed a multi-item survey inquiring about lifestyle and dietary habits particularly during childhood. While this study had completed its enrollment at least 5 years ago, ongoing reports are being generated from this study. Two important issues addressed by this study are:
“What are the risk factors associated with getting diagnosed with IBD?” and;
“Can we uncover possible causes of IBD?”
